In reference to our previous post, here are some more pics Jeffrey took at Home Slice, hands down Austin’s best pizza. Jeffrey and I had our own Man Vs. Food episode as we tackled this beasty Pepperoni and Mushroom pizza. We were both full after two slices, but being as we were not going to let food win this battle we trudged onward. Home Slice is just one of those quaint locally owned restaurants that represents the soul of Austin and its people. We knew we could not walk away from here without getting some good pics of this fine establishment.
Calling out all local filmmakers. Here is a great opportunity to show off your film making skillz! Watch the video and learn how you can compete in this nation wide film contest.
“When I was asked to interpret this still, a thousand different ideas flooded my mind. I wanted to create a dynamic film that took the audience on a journey and showed off the many strengths of this new breed of HD DSLR cameras, such as the Canon 7D, which we shot this film with. The camera’s low light capabilities and light weight allow you to do things you’d never think to try with traditional cameras. This has been an amazing experience and it’s just the beginning.” -VINCENT LAFORET
I hope you enjoy this short – we had a blast making it!
Submissions for the next chapter are due February 11 using the last still from this film which you can download on the contest page. Learn more about the contest here – vimeo.com/groups/beyondthestill
THE STORY BEYOND THE STILL
Introducing the first user-generated HD Video Contest where photographers become filmmakers, and we all see beyond the still. To kick off the contest, Canon asked photographer, Vincent Laforet, to interpret what story lives beyond this still and to tell that story with the new Canon EOS 7D. His will be the first chapter of seven, each ending with a still photograph for the next aspiring filmmaker to interpret. Posing the question to everyone, what do you see beyond the still?
One of the most memorable days in someone’s life is their graduation.
“Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”
Yesterday my older brother Rick graduated from the COED (college of education) at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU). Rick is the second oldest and also the second in my family to graduate from college. The quote above describes what my oldest brother Eric did for my
family. Eric was the first ever to graduate from college from all my cousins and therefore set an example or a “trail” as the quote says that everyone else has followed.
I have always looked up to both of my older brothers. They have been great mentors and have always supported everything I do. Back in 2002 when I graduated from high school, we opened up a website called www.laredosportsrush.com. The webpage covered all local sports with cool video clips, pictures and stories. All the stories were written by Rick as he knew more about sports than one can imagine. At that time, local websites were non existent. It was a great project that led the way for many other local web pages to follow.
Anyways, many more classmates and friends also graduated yesterday.

Im personally inviting everyone to the First Annual Black & White Party.
I will be snapping pictures of all the people that get there before 12.
I promised myself that I will enjoy the party this time and I plan on drinking a few cold once the clock hits 12.
As we approach the New Moon movie premiere we decided to have a bit of fun and join the twilight movement.
We are recreating several of the movie posters using talents from LDO. If you look like any character from the Twilight series and want to be part of the fun give us a call.
Also, if you have created your own poster go ahead and email it to us so we can publish on our blog.
Finally our equipment has arrived! As photographers, we want to create high quality, original photos for our clients. We upgraded our lighting equipment to compliment our techniques and creative aspects. With that being said, this is the perfect time to book your photo shoot with us for the holidays.
The very first music video we shot in 2009 will air on MTV Jams starting Nov. 27th.
Hopefully Laredoans can tune in and check out their own backyard on MTV. The music video was shot entirely in Laredo, TX. Some parts were also shot in Nuevo Laredo, Tamps.
Last week the History channel aired a show detailing the drug wars in Laredo. It made the city look a lot worse than it really is. This music video shines another light on Laredo by unveiling its colors, culture and authenticity.
I got the call from Scheme, from Chicago, telling me about how he had been contacted by MTV. The video has been chosen to air on the show on the 27th and hopefully it will keep airing for a while.
I will have to do some very small changes to the video to format it for tv use. For those of you who haven’t seen the video, the video is posted below.
I was hired to document Paulina’s show at the LEC yesterday by Global Groove London.
I have never been a big fan of Paulina but my wife loves her music. I pretty much have most of her songs memorized because of this.(well actually I have all her albums in my iPod) haha…
Anyways, it was a great show, one of the best shows I’ve seen in laredo!! I was able to get some really awesome shots and also managed to get some back stage access with the Paulina and her band members.(see below)
I will be posting pictures of the show this weekend on Global Groove’s web page, but for now enjoy the behind the scenes pics with the band members.
