Hot Tub Time Machine

Being an 80s baby I was definitely looking forward to this movie.  I’m glad to say that this movie did not disappoint me.  While it is riddled with vulgar language and adult humor, those of you who are fans of comedies such as The Hangover and Beer Fest will welcome this movie with its laugh out loud moments and awesome one liners.  Some critics have championed the movie while others have railed against it.  The best way to watch this movie is to see it as it was intended to be seen, which is to not take it too serious.  The movie is filled with references to classic 80s flicks such as Back to the Future and Red Dawn.  It pays homage to all those fun 80s B movie films by featuring a ski resort for the main setting and one dimensional antagonists who’s sole purpose of existence is to be a prick for no reason.  John Cusack, best known for holding a boom box over his head, stars in this flick but other 80s staples include Crispin Glover, who played Mary McFly’s dad in the Back to the Future series, and Chevy Chase.   Rob Cordry does a pretty good job of keeping the laughs coming and Craig Robinson, most notable from his role as the bouncer in Knocked Up, is funny as well.  The movie does shed light on adult themes like regret and the dissolution of friendships.  While it doesn’t delve too deep into them, it may hit home with those audience members who have aged past the time when their biggest decision was debating whether to hit up that party their buddy told them about or head on over to the local waterin’ hole.
